Advocate

Because of my fierce passion for justice and equality, I take my position as a social advocate incredibly seriously. These pieces demonstrate my ability to combine my research and writing skills with real-world implications of larger social and civic issues. This room showcases the actionable power of the written word, as well as my propensity to harness that power for the sake of others.

I wrote this article during my time as an editor of the review board for the third UCF Undergraduate Law Journal. This article, which was peer-reviewed and selected for publication, calls into question the efficacy of certain interrogation techniques based on our understandings of memory, cognitive bias, and morality. This article is heavily researched, dealing with the intersections of psychology, law, and ethics as it relates to certain practices in the current criminal justice system. I believe, in part, this work speaks for itself, and asserts my  capabilities as an advocate belonging to the conversations of equality, criminal justice, the social sciences, and our human rights.

The sustainability report was an opportunity to study writing for social change and sustainability in localized communities, while taking action on the social issues we studied. This work addresses the topic of service-learning pedagogy, making a case to further develop the current curriculum in new ways. Through each piece of the report I navigate through the many channels we must take to incite change on some level. This report shows my ability to prepare impactful reports and thoughtful proposals, detailing the work, steps, and procedures needed to move towards enacting change and/or social development.

This motion was an opportunity I had to practice putting the knowledge I gained about writing legal materials into practice. This work sets up a fictional case scenario, dealing with the enforceability of a prenuptial agreement between two parties at the time of divorce. Tasked with defending the validity of the agreement, this piece is a response to the opposing motion arguing for summary judgment. My work in this motion shows my ability to synthesize numerous case materials, argue facts and case law, and make a strong, objective case for ruling in favor of my “client.”
