About the Writer
Welcome! My name is Christian E. Tabet.

Whenever I am asked why I chose the path of writing, I often respond with the joke that it's because "writing is in my blood." Writing comes very naturally to me, connecting me to my mother, who is a writer, and to her mother before her, who was a writer. I began writing early on, but until I discovered the kind of companionship writing could offer me, it was always more of an inconsequential pastime. From the moment I discovered the generative power of writing, I felt like I had uncovered secrets and answers to questions long gone ignored and unanswered. As an Essayist, writing granted me the freedom to be as vulnerable and as visible as I needed, during times I otherwise felt invalidated and limited by dominant narratives and external pressures that sought to restrict who I was and what I could do. Writing made my existence in the world something real, and my voice tangible.
Our world is full of conversation, and many times there are those who don't have the means, the resources, or the words to join in the conversations that matter the most--the ones about them and their existence. They're often turned away at the door, told there wasn't any room at the table for them or their ideas. Knowing what that was like, I had to learn to discover my own validation in the generative power of writing. As an Advocate, writing served to help me grapple with the world and reckon with the experiences that make me who I am. Now, I feel I have a duty to provide that same solidarity for others through my writing. And so, I write to provide a platform. I write to provide a bridge. I write to provide a voice for others whose stories need to be made tangible. I write for those who deserve to be in those conversations.

And, as a Scholar, I write to give others the key to the liberation that comes from finding their language in a sea of written words, so that they may cross doors they never thought they'd open.

"Because somewhere out there is someone who needs that story. And who with that story may have hope, or wisdom, or kindness, or comfort. And that is why we write."
